Working in metal makes me happy

My fine art is about experimentation. Usually I work in paper, but I happen to really love working in scrap metal. Using silver solder and a small torch, I work to make sculpture out of recycled copper, brass, aluminum and wire that has been given to me by friends or found. My technique is imperfect, purposely, which is just the way I like it. I like to add a lot of texture and color as I believe it invites the viewer to get up close to the piece and interact with it—when I see this happening, I know the piece is successful and it makes me happy. This is my latest sculpture, titled “Trunk.”
